About State Law Lookup
State Law Lookup is an independent reference site. It reads state statutes, court rules and official court pages, quotes the figure each one sets, and links the source so the reader can check it. It is not a law firm and gives no legal advice.
How the site works
Every figure is read from a state statute, a court rule or an official court or state agency page, quoted word for word, and stored with its source link and the date it was checked. Pages, tables and charts are generated from those records, and states whose official source could not be read are marked not verified instead of being filled from secondary sites. The methodology page lists every source.
What the site does not do
State Law Lookup gives general information, not legal advice. It does not refer visitors to lawyers, does not take referral fees, shares in no legal fees and carries no pay-per-call numbers. For help with a specific situation, court self-help centers and legal aid organizations are free.
Corrections
If a figure is wrong or a source has changed, email hello@statelawlookup.com with the page and a link. Corrections go into the data file and the check date updates with the next build.
